FAQ
FAQ for ABPN
II
Why attend Dr. Rayel’s review
course?
Psychiatry Board Review for ABPN II is a
cost-effective way to prepare for the oral boards. Just like any board review courses, you’ll learn effective
exam strategies to help you prepare for this difficult test of your competence.
Unlike many review courses however, Dr. Rayel’s program is
practical because it happens in the comforts of your home. If you have online access, you’re set to learn
exam strategies — no extra expenses, no hotels, no traffic, no luggage to pack. You don’t even have to be
away from families, friends, and workplace.
Unlike other review courses, this program is not necessarily easy.
Before you start the course, you’ll be given clinical vignettes
and emodule to work on. This emodule refers to assigned tasks and exercises that reviewers
should perform to practice psychiatric skills such as the introduction, psychiatric interview,
and oral presentation, among other things. Such emodule is rigorous and yet a great learning
tool because you'll be required to practice various skills and techniques right where you are -- at home or
at work.
The Clinical Vignettes Vols. 1 and 2, with more than 90 clinical case
scenarios, is broad and
covers relevant and difficult cases that clinicians may encounter. Likewise, the
Clinical Vignettes Comprehensive covers clinical cases,
commonly-asked questions, and detailed asnwers.
Also, the web seminar (or webinar),
which is a web-based presentation on various relevant topics, can be accessed anywhere through the
web.
Unlike many courses, this review allows you to have free consultations
with Dr. Rayel either by phone or e-mail. You will also receive free oral board exam books called
Passing Strategies -- both in audio
and print. The audio book can be conveniently used while driving, exercising, and relaxing.
Moreover, you’ll learn many things during this program such as: how to
organize your clinical data and presentation; how to deal with difficult cases; effective ways to negotiate
the video exam, and so much more.

When is the best time to enroll in this
program?
The best time to enroll is a few months or several weeks before
the exam. The practical strategies taught in this program are designed to be practiced on a regular basis
several weeks before the exam. Board preparation just a few days prior to the exam has a limited value
(except for desensitization), in my opinion.

Is Dr. Rayel’s review course helpful for
International Medical Graduates (IMGs)?
Dr. Rayel’s program
is designed for all oral exam candidates. However as an IMG himself, Dr. Rayel understands the difficulties
and challenges that IMGs face. Moreover, this program is quite helpful for candidates with interview and
presentation deficiencies.
What does the 'hands-on' training
involve?
It involves practical application of interview and presentation
strategies, presentation of cases, exposure to clinical vignettes, audiocassette recording and
analysis, among others.
